This picture of a woman appearing to be bringing water back or food from the forest to her village is a common work day for the average Ethiopian woman. They work and take care of the village while the men hunt and run the village. The cultural element in this picture would relate to customs and traditions. Their traditions very commonly involve, having their ears stretched out with heavy jewelry hanging from them. They also wear very little clothing that barely covers their genitals, rarely is it seen they have their body fully clothed.

In the 1950s, females typically did not live longer than men due to struggles during childbirth, disease, and improper medication. Looking at figure 1 in 1950, many of the third world countries had low life expectancies for females because we weren't as advanced in technology, medication, nor did we have trained doctors. Looking at figure 2 in 2013, advances in medication have come a long way and women are now outliving men. We are quicker at making diagnoses, having vaccinations to prevent diseases such as Malaria, and able to get the needed medical attention faster than we did in the 1950s. It's amazing to see how far the poorest of countries have come along even though they still have high death rates, we are much more advanced than we used to be compared to 1950's.
